"Spool.fm Released - New Web-Based Music Player — Search And Play any Song on The Net!"
On the subject of UncategorizedA new French startup, Spool.FM, has released a service that allows you to search for and play almost any song on the web , through an AJAX and Javascript interface.
The Good:
(1) Gives Users access to almost any song on the web thats in easy access format (the search feature is still expanding, and will likely include more music as it expands)
(2) Allows songs to be placed in playlists without registration . This basically gives end users complete control over the music they want to play and in what order, compared to ordinary net radio systems , such as Yahoo Music.
(3) Its legal for the end user to use ,no matter whether they own the music they are playing or not (See “5″)
(4) You no longer have to download music if you just want to play it on your computer or computer connected stereo system. This means that you can avoid being sued.
(5) Occupies a legal gray area by searching songs from other peoples servers and indexing them . Then , when you select a song , it plays that song from the searched server. Because people are allowed to put their songs on their personal websites, this means that it should have most songs in its indexed library without creating copyright infringements.

The Bad:
(1) Poor Sound Quality sometimes , as Spool.FM doesn’t differentiate between high quality and low quality music when it searches.
(2) Multiple versions of each song, as the site displays all results it has for that particular song.
It’ll be interesting to see how this site develops and how the music industry responds. Perhaps this will be the final blow that will render up copyright reform on the net.
I’m particularly interested in whether the music industry will come after the individual site owners who sites Spool.Fm is indexing, as it will be very difficult to sue Spool itself.
